In Memory of My Loving Wife Judy God broke our heart's to prove to us, he only takes the best God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be. So he put his arm's around you, and whispered come to me. With tearful eye's we watched you, and saw you pass away. And though we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our heart's to prove to us, he only takes the best |

Hi my name is Dean Austin. I live in Shawnee Oklahoma with Wife Judy and Grandson Jeff. We have 5 acres near the city lake about 15 miles west of town. It is very peaceful out here. We have deer in our front yard quite often. There has been a few changes here. My wife passing a way was the worst thing. I have adjusted but it is very hard living without her. My single Daughter has moved back home. She didn't thing Jeff & I should be here alone. About a month after she moved back my 16 year old Grandaughter moved in with us. With two 16 year olds to keep up with I keep busy. The two Grandchildren have just turned 18 the Grandson on Nov 7 the Grandauggter Dec 13 of 2002 I worked as a mechanic for Kelly Tractor in Tulsa Oklahoma from 1973 to 1979. I then went to Cusack Equipment in Oklahoma City. I was there until I retired in 1995 because of my health. I still love to work on tractors but am not physically able to do much. I do help people who have problems with their tractors on the internet. I enjoy helping people when I can. Before I started working as a farm and construction equipment mechanic, I worked in the oilfield. I ran a unit that cut paraffin from flowing oil wells. If you didn't keep the paraffin cut out ot the tubing it finally plugged and stopped the flow of oil. We ran a pipe out about 30 ft. from the well and blew the oil mixed with the paraffin on the ground and burned it. It made a huge fire. A lot of people stopped to see what was going one. I also ran work over rigs, pulling units, worked as a roustabout and drove tank and rigup trucks in the oilfield. I was a mechanic, service manager and general flunky for a small truck leasing company and drove trucks cross county My first memories were in Mounds Oklahoma where dad worked for the school as a janitor and later at the aircraft plant in Tulsa after the war started. We milked three to five cows. I can't remember when I didn't have to get up to help milk. My dad and brothers were always gone to work by the time I got up. That left all the chores to Mom and me. We had chickens and a huge garden that I helped with. I loved it when I had a chance to go into the garden with Dad and eat tomatoes off the vine while we checked the garden out. Sometimes we would draw water from an old hand dug well to water the garden with a bucket full at a time that took awhile. Dad went to work for the exploration department of Standard Oil Co. I was eight years old at the time. We moved to Craig, CO. I really liked it when we sold all the livestock. There were 8 of us kids so there were not a lot of frills til Dad went to work for the oil company. I thought we were rich after that from 1944 to 1948 we moved twice to four times a year. In those years I lived in WaKeeney, Ks., Ness City, KS., Meade, KS then back to Mounds, OK, Woodward, OK and Watonga, OK. Then it was back to Meade, KS. Dad transferred from the exploration department to the production department. We moved to Wewoka, OK. We were there from June 1948 til January 1952. We moved to the small boom town of County Line OK. The Carter county and Stephens county line ran right through the center of town. There were more beer joints than grocery stores, so it got a little wild. I think I have lived a pretty interesting life! |

( I type this story with pain In my heart ) In 1957 on July 3rd my sister Barney , my mom and I left for Bakersfield CA. We had a lot of fun on this trip. there was one part that is real funny. We were between Las Vegas NV. and Barstow CA. Barney was driving-- it was just before daylight. we were talking about first one thing and the other just trying to keep awake. When Barney said she wished it would hurry up and get daylight. She had no more than got the words out and it got light . We drove for what seemed like 10 min.when the lights started to fade out. We went on for quite a little while no one said a word. Mom finally asked,"what in the world was that?" I said "it was the shortest day we ever had". Barney said, " I am sure glad I didn't wish for a man."Leave it to her to come up with something like that. When we got to Bakersfield we found out that it was an atomic bomb test they had set off in the desert. We really got a laugh out of it later, but it sure was spooky til we found out what it was. You have to imagine driving though the middle of the night and it getting daylight all at once A BIG UNC STORY
For those who don't know we lost Barney March 4th 1999 to a brain tumor |
