Charlie's Angels ...Rated R Starring Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, Lucy Liu Movie-Lite Rating: 3 1/2 stars out of 5 Kid Quotient: 4 our of 10: Nudity, violence, and adult themes make this a stay-home flick for the younger kids BUY SOUNDTRACK
Much more than "just another old tv show-turned-movie", Charlie's Angels stands alone as a memorable action comedy. While a few hairdo flips pay homage to the popular 70's series, the millennium's angels pack a real wallop. Impressive fight choreography and wire stunts do more than just add to the stellar beauty one is to expect from the angel alter egos; it shows the versatility and length Barrymore, Diaz, and Liu can achieve to wow an audience. The soundtrack is not to be missed if you are a 70's fan.
Dungeons and Dragons ...Rated PG-13 Starring Justin Whalin, Jeremy Irons Movie-Lite Rating: 3 1/2 stars out of 5 Kid Quotient: 7 out of 10: May bore some children; possibly frightening scenes for young kids BUY SOUNDTRACK
Gamers and fantasy fans alike (save a few extremists who have petitioned the film be removed for not holding true to every gamer's quest) will find this roleplaying game turned movie a fun ride. Gamers will appreciate how closely the script parallels the roleplaying universe as a beautiful young empress (Thora Birch) battles evil wizards to protect the rights of citizens throughout the land of Izmer. Yes there are dungeons and there are absolutely some dragons. Great special effects work.
The Emperor's New Groove ...Rated PG Starring David Spade, John Goodman Movie-Lite Rating: 4 stars out of 5 Kid Quotient: 9 out of 10-- fun for everyone BUY SOUNDTRACK
Fun songs, hip characters, and quintessential baddies made this latest animated offering from Disney destined to be another back door classic. Spade is the voice of Emperor Kuzco, the impossibly self centered and spoiled ruler of a faraway land who must come to terms with his selfish ways after being turned into a llama.
The Family Man ...Rated PG-13 Starring Nicholas Cage, Tea Leoni Movie-Lite Rating: 3 1/2 stars out of 5 Kid Quotient: 4 out of 10-- nudity and adult themes, also some boring subject matter. Teens, particularly girls, may love it BUY SOUNDTRACK
Very similar in flavor to It's a Wonderful Life (complete with bell-wielding angel) , this Christmas tale of a man who thinks he has everything until given a "glimpse" of the life he could have had if he had said yes instead of no to marrying his college sweetheart is funny, poignant, and touching. A must see for anyone with children.
The Grinch ...Rated PG Starring Jim Carrey Movie-Lite Rating: 4 stars out of 5 Kid Quotient: 9 out of 10-- fun for everyone BUY SOUNDTRACK
While I grew up waiting eagerly for this Seuss animated classic to hit my tv screen each holiday season, I confess I wasn't expecting to be nearly as enamored of Universal's silver screen rendition. I consider myself corrected. Carrey is the quintessential Grinch Who Stole Christmas, from the voice to the posture and right down to the evil grin.
You'll find remembered Whoville characters including little Cindy Lou and Max, the dog wonder. A fun assortment of special makeup effects, props, and music will take adults back to another time, and allow children a glimpse into the wonder that is a Seuss Christmas.
