Mai Family Tree

As they say, if there's one thing you cannot choose in this world, it's your parents. Add to that the bad news that for some (including me), they even come with a package of brother/s and/or sister/s . Of course, i'm just kidding to say that it's bad news. It's a catastrophe actually! Oh well, there are some things that you just have to accept no matter what and that includes the family one belongs to (Shhh... don't tell them i said that).

Mine is a normal earthling family. We eat edible food, close our eyes when sleeping, and mingle with the other families around us with no intention of grilling them, or whatsoever. Anyway, in this section, i'll introduce you to the most important persons in my life. That if i have to relive my life, i'd still choose to be with these creatures. They're a handful but hey, that's the challenge!

Tatay and Nanay

They are the coolest parents in the world! ...... My father (George) is a carpenter. He builds weird-looking houses and boasts that he's one of those who helped build the Manila Cathedral many years back. Okay, so he has a photo as a proof although i'm not sure if he's there as a builder or just a visitor. Just kidding. I trust him. ...... My mother (Mely) deserves an Achievement Award for raising perfectly normal kids amidst the hard times. She exudes with charm that makes her well-loved by everyone. Hmmm, i must have taken that charming quality from her. What do u think? .... If I would be the one to raise them, i'll surely have a hard time though, because they are SO complicated, as in! I remember receiving spanks from them when i turn into this mischievous daughter . Good thing, i grew up fast and smart enough that now, that they hate to see me cry. Hmmm, i must have outsmarted them, this time .... My father was the one who taught me how to count at an early age. With that, i could play mahjong before i even went to formal school. Blame him .... As for my mom, she's my personal guidance counsellor. She never grew tired of hearing my stories of heartaches, frustrations and complaints. On second thought, maybe she has but at the same time, has the talent of pretending not to be notice???

Kuya Dick (with wife Ate Irene and daughter Tin-Tin)

Kuya Dick is quite a hunk! (Hindi naman dahil sa sumisipsip ako ) When he's still young, he used to be so skinny. But then, his Middle East job exposure turned him into this incredible hulk stature. He was able to snatched the heart of Ate Irene and together they produced the first-born grandchild in the family, Kristine.... My Kuya Dick is a serious-type of guy, but ask him about a certain movie and he'll belt out like a movie critique! Yep, he likes watching movies and is usually the first one on cinemas during its first day of opening. He's also hooked on computers and electronic gadgets, and surprises us that he can play tennis! Would you believe that??!!!... My favorite childhood memory about him are the chocolates and grapes he used to bring me home when he returns from his trip. My seatmates would readily knew my Kuya Dick is home and they also love the goodies!

Kuya Boboy (with wife Ate Marvie, sons Daniel, Ibot, Arvin and daughter Raizza)

Talk about being cool and sweet at the same time, my Kuya Boboy is your kind of guy. I could chat with him about "good" times and he'll always have his piece of naughty stories. He has this record for being notorious with girls, because he's cute during his times. But then again, his heart was captured by Ate Marvy and they produced three rascals and a princess. My favorite childhood memory of him were the Yakults he used to bring me during his payday. (Hmmm....indeed, my brothers know that a way to a little sis' heart is through her stomach! )... As a big bro to my rescue, i coudn't neglect the fact that he helped me get sober the first time i got wasted during a drinking spree with friends. Now, he could be proud of me because i can finish more bottles without turning into a dramatic actress !

Ate Mirla (with husband Kuya Tony, son AJ and daughter Ia Mea)

If you haven't met a certified snub yet, lemme introduce you to my big sister . My sister and i were like cat-and-dog back then. We fight a lot. We exchange flying plastic containers ("tabo"), pinches, etc. and just after every fight, both of us ends crying our hearts out because we're both scolded !  We had our times alright and just like any normal growing, attention-hungry kids, we suddenly turned into adorable daughters after receiving our parent's unique way of testing the durability of leather belts .  Now, my sister and me are partners in crime . We get along so well and swears to keep each others secret be it a hacked account or some other classified stuff.... Good thing my sister was tamed by her husband and they made a frog and a princess for themselves .

Family Tradition

"The family that do things together stays together." To my dismay, we don't practice this much . However, there are things that we strive to keep as traditions or common amongst us. One of which is the New Year's Day celebration that is filled with games and food. My siblings could be celebrating Christmases with their own small families, however the first day of the year is celebrated with the whole bunch and the rest of the compound dwellers. This has been done regularly and would only be missed if a member is terribly sick. In the midst of these occassions and menus, we would never denounce our love of eating kare-kare and fresh lumpia. Everyone adores these dishes . On the other hand, the first generation family members share a common interest of playing the Scrabble and Mahjong during lazy afternoons. Too bad the little ones were not as interested in making millions from the 25 cents bet per game.

Oh well, this is the family where i belong. The coming together of the Miralles and the Layusa clan is a combination made in heaven. From thereforth, two boys and two girls were born and were anticipated to bear more adorable descendants, better than their destined parents. I would gladly trace my ancestral roots in this page. However in doing so, i'll only expose the eccentricities of my clan and may perhaps cause doubts and raise eyebrows on the reader's side. Thus, to all my relatives out there.... let's just keep the family secret among us, ok?
