For archived pictures from R2LA 2003 CLICK HERE Special thanks to astromech.net for storing the galleries! This site will follow my progress as I attempt to build a replica of my favorite droid, R2-D2. As an 11 year old boy, I was absolutely blown away by the film Star Wars. I remember a documentary on the making of The Empire Strikes Back, and that was it! By the time I reached high school I was hooked on the idea of one day working at Industrial Light and Magic, creating special effects, running motion control rigs, and building models. At one point I had the opportunity to visit Skywalker Ranch and briefly met George Lucas (we literally bumped into each other in the cafeteria!). Eventually I went on to open my own video production company, Media Magic. Instead of producing special effects, I produce documentaries. It has been a true adventure that I would not trade for anything. But the dream of owning my own R2-D2 stuck with me. Eventually this led me to the R2-D2 Builders Club. This group is dedicated to producing droids that in some cases are better than the original. The talent and endless creativity that these people posess has insipred me to pursue my dream and make it a reality. I hope you enjoy the site. Thank you for visiting! -Michael |
