Science for everyone!

Science, all science, is fun.  For some reason this idea gets lost in the turmoil and regimentation of education.  The excitement of the quest for a better or more thorough understanding of the Universe that surrounds us is smothered in clouds of "hard" study that precede the journey.  Sometimes the idea gets stifled long before we reach school by those around us who tell us that this or that is difficult.  They tell us these things often enough that we begin to believe them.  The truth is, nothing in science is really difficult (except, perhaps, dealing with people).  It may appear complicated and it may sometimes be a bit confusing, but it is not difficult. So, if you are a student struggling with your studies or an individual driven by an inner curiosity, you have come to the right place.  Knowing the numbers is not a prerequisite for broadening your understanding and appreciation of the mysteries waiting to be explored in astronomy, physics, biology, chemistry; indeed, all areas of investigation. What I want to accomplish with these pages is simple and, hopefully, constructive.  I hope you find them rewarding and helpful.

My main interest, as you have probably guessed, is in astronomy but you will find things in here on almost any themes you can imagine and some you may not have known existed.  On the left you will find a clickable list of topics.  They represent the main list and each page contains a clickable list of parallel material, interesting links pertinent to that topic, and some links I have researched and have found to be at least reasonably

Most of what  you are going to  find written in these pages is material I have put together and when it comes from another source that source will be stated.  If you take exception to anything I have to say, that is your right.  If you find any errors, I would appreciate it if you would let me know what you found and where.  Unlike my mother believed, I am only human, unable to leap tall buildings in a single bound, and mistakes are not unknown to me.

I am both pleased and proud to announce that my essay "WHY MARS" has won first place (Pioneer Division) in an essay competition sponsored by THE MARS SOCIETY and that I have been invited to present my paper at the 2004 international conference (to be held in Chicago, Illinois) of this august body of scientists, engineers, technicians and lay people who share a common interest in the exploration of space with emphasis on the colonization of Mars and, by default, the moon.  I must add that I am humbled by this honor.
