the moon's light illuminated you
I simply invited the love
It's painful I can't sleep
if I love, it'll hurt as much as I love
it seems that's why I can become stronger gently
even sadness can be changed in my thoughts, I look like I believe in it
because I won't ever give up the feelings of thinking of you

Seiya Kou, the charismatic and probably the most popular of the Three Lights. He’s charming, easy going and has a great sense of fun, but he has that tendency to be a little… arrogant, at times. His celebrity status seems to boost his ego – and it’s his thought that he should be known by everybody. Amusingly enough (and amazingly in his case) Tsukino Usagi would probably be the first person to be unaware of who he is.
But while he has that tendency to be a bit full of himself, that could perhaps count as one of his major flaws. He’s a very friendly, kind, social and compassionate person. As well, he is also very intelligent. But while he could do well in school, Seiya is probably more likely to choose having fun over sitting down for the long haul in school. He is perfectly capable of doing the latter though and he demonstrates this in episode 196. This is the episode where the Three Lights are making a musical, and Seiya has a little bit of trouble with a few tests – he is however able make up for the mark, and in the end, receives a 98% score.
Seiya is also pretty competitive but he is a very good sport. In Episode 174, when Seiya is demonstrating his skills in Football (which happens to be his hobby), just as he’s about to get within reach of the endzone, he’s knocked down. He doesn’t mind however, instead, he complements the other player.
But while he’s usually very extroverted, confident, and optimistic, his personality can do a complete turn about. He has his serious moments. When Taiki and Yaten’s spirits are flagging in the search for Kakyuu, he’s the one that rallies their spirits and encourages them to continue on for the sake of their Princess.
Seiya is probably the most compassionate out of the Three Lights; while Taiki and Yaten refuse to acknowledge the Earthlings (they believe that the Earthlings aren’t their responsibility), Seiya is the first to show concern for the fate of Earth and its’ inhabitants. Out of all the Starlights and the “Outer Soldiers” (the two groups which continually butt heads over the course of Sailor Stars), Star Fighter was the first to openly accept Sailor Moon’s offer of working together (whereas it took Star Maker and Star Healer up till the last few episodes to accept).
As a Sailor Soldier, Sailor Star Fighter is very powerful. She’s probably the Starlight with all the raw talent in terms of physical combat (or anything to do with it). Her fighting style is aggressive, much like Jupiter and Uranus. But, unlike Jupiter, who has a tendency to lose herself in the fight and make herself blind to everything else, and Uranus, who has a very cold preciseness to the way she deals things, Fighters’ style is more flamboyant. It does however, have an element of that preciseness like Uranus’.
Rizuki-san said:
"LOL. XD Fighter's got this dirty teasing thing going when she fights, she likes to fight verbally while fighting physically to psyche the opponent out, or something."
Out of the three, Fighter is probably the one least likely to lose herself in the fight and become blind to every thing else (with Uranus coming second).
As well as being a strong warrior, Fighter has much honor and like her civilian counterpart, is full of pride – however, she’s not beyond accepting help from other sources either.
Fighter’s personality is also incredibly different to her alter ego’s; she’s much more serious and much more focused. She has a more desperate outlook on life and is more cynical. Judging by the way Fighter acts in civilian form, one could say that her identity as Seiya Kou is an escape for her. As it is, by the time we meet Fighter in the series, she’s only living for one thing. That is to find Princess Kakyuu. Kinmoku, her home planet, has been destroyed, and she, her fellow Starlights and Kakyuu are the last survivors. Fighter carries the burden of failing to protect Kinmoku and Kakyuu; it truly is a cruel punishment to live to see the destruction of everything you hold dear. However, when Fighter is Seiya Kou, she’s able to relax for one moment and not focus on the pain of losing Kinmoku and Kakyuu.
Manga-wise, however, Seiya Kou is incredibly different. Her civilian form and Soldier forms aren’t different personality-wise; both are serious, focused, driven and quiet. Seiya doesn’t have that cocky attitude that she has in the anime, and she’s not arrogant. She’s also incredibly morbid. She allows herself fewer distractions then her anime counterpart (those few being football and Usagi) and is focused solely on the mission of finding Kakyuu.
The emotional baggage is definitely weighing her down but the effects are obvious.
But besides the trauma of watching her home planet getting destroyed and the fact that time is running out for them, Seiya also has to deal with the fact that she has an unrequited love – for Princess Kakyuu. Kakyuu’s heart already belongs to an unnamed person who unfortunately was killed by Galaxia right in front of her eyes (very similar to the way Mamoru died in the manga, though it’s questionable as to whether or not this lover had something like a Golden Crystal). To read more on Seiya’s unrequited loves in the anime and manga, go to Other Loves.
The fighting style of manga Fighter seems to be a bit more different than anime Fighter. It still has that same raw intensity but in a more quiet, restrained manner. Not flamboyant like anime Fighter, more quick and to the point.
