A center for Thalassotherapy is located in the neighborhood of the house ( www.naturel-sante.com; www.thalasso.net; www.cofrase-thalasso.com/poitou-charentes/indexde.htm), the heated sea water pool is great fun for young and old especially on rainy or cool days.

The USA Today Travel guide on "Ten great place for summer's last sand" describes the Ile de Re as follows:

Ile de Re, France
A long bridge connects the town of La Rochelle, on the west coast, with this sandy isle. The long, flat beaches have incredible tides that go way in and way out. They make for wonderful gathering of winkles, clams and other mollusks. The light is gorgeous, and the island is known for its artists and galleries. A popular getaway, it's still warm in September when the August crowds are gone.
