4-Meeting People
It's as American as Apple Pie. It was done at the Salt Lake City
Olympic Opening Ceremony! AND it is done all over the world!
(My brother-in-law has square danced in Japan.) Square
Dancing is always called in English. Check
out this link!

Square Dancing is a unique and very American pasttime. It is done with 4 couples who start out in the shape of a square (hence the name.) Each couple forms one side of the square. A caller 'cues' the various steps.
Starting with very easy steps cued by the caller and done to music,
Modern Western Square Dancing easily evolves into a fun kaleidoscope of
movement.

Square dancers typically enjoy many other types of dancing including clogging, round dancing and line dancing. At the 4x4's we mix traditional square dancing with many of the popular line dances such as the Electric Slide and the Macarena, as well as some oldies but goodies such as the Hokey Pokey and the Virginia Reel.

Square Dancing is taught one step at a time. People of all
ages and
skill levels have done very well. Each week the caller will add a
few
new steps (calls) and the earlier calls will be reviewed. If you
can
tell your left from your right (at least most of the time, see cartoon) you can Square Dance. Making
mistakes and recovering from them is half the fun!
Square Dancing is more about moving from one place to another than how
you move your feet.
(It can't be too hard - I learned! ;^)
