Sculptures by Ruth McLeod
Artist portrait

I am a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and the University of British Columbia and have studied the cultures of both the East and the West. I have also travelled in the USA, Europe, and Central America, where I was able to view some of the great art collections of the world, before settling down on the Northwest Coast of my homeland, Canada.
I have worked in a variety of materials from jade to bronze and developed a number of themes based on close studies of nature and symbolic systems. For instance, one series deals with the natural world through the depiction of people, animals, and their individual natures, and another series deals with Tao and Buddhist precepts of balance and harmony through highly stylized and symbolic yantras. I am also interested in plant forms and landscapes. Pantheistic, pre-literate, and western art traditions inform my style; but, I ultimately trace my artistic ancestry to the Americas.
