North Plains Man out here in Washington "Go Figure"
Hello and Welcome!
My name is Rob and I originate from the north central plains of North Dakota where if you couldn't buy it you built it. I've aways been trying to find my niche in life and I think that I have found it. That's why you're here right?
I've figured out that everybody wants and needs a Drying Cabinet (DC). I've put my talents and skills to work building Custom Drying Cabinets. I mean it's not likely you're going to find one in a local discount store.
My wife, Ronnie, needed a way to dry her herbs and vegetables. So
the only thing I could do was to put my thinking cap on and come up
with
something, and come up with something is what I did. The DC I came up
with we'll call the 'prototype' was a MONSTER.
It stood six feet high, four
feet wide, and was three feet deep. I made it with six inside shelves.
I even had to put wheels on the bottom so we could move the damn heavy
thing around. With a internal fan, air is kept circulating giving
optimum even drying. Hey give me a break, I didn't want to make
something that was to small. If you've chatted with my wife, you also
know that it worked beautifully.
So now I've decided to down size a bit and cut down on the weight and shipping size. The basic standard DC will be (20" wide x 20" depth x 3' height) the main frame is constructed with 1 1/2" square studs and covered with 1/4 inch plywood (both pine). The unit will have a main front door opening for the drying chamber and a lower access door for the fan housing both hinged and latched. The DC will have a 120v AC (65 CMF) fan circulating air in a loop from the top to the bottom. The DC unit comes with five fine screen drying shelves, the coarse screen shelves can be substituted for an additional cost of $2.00 each, and 10 foot electric cord. This standard DC Unit is priced at $300.00
I have come up with a few options you might want to consider and will be built into the DC.
A second 65 CFM fan that would include a low/high switch so that you can run one fan or switch to high to be running both fans which would be moving air at 130 CFM.
If you need additional shelves: The fine mesh (window screen) shelves, where drying material is placed on top of the screen OR coarse 1/4" mesh shelves where drying material is hung from below are available.
Thermo-hygrometer wireless sensor and display Radio Shack ( Model: BAR668HGA )*yes there are others, and maybe cheaper models, but in my experience this is the best instrument for keeping an eye on what temperature / humidity conditions are in your DC*. The sensor is placed in the center of the DC and your wireless display can be in your eye sight anywhere that is convenient.
I can install a hour cycle timer in the fan housing. We have found through trail and error that it is better to not run the air cycling fan constantly, and would be wise to have a on/off timer hooked up to the fan.
For those ecological minded that are off the grid a 12 volt DC fan can be substituted.
If you have interest in any of the future ideas for options I have mentioned drop me an e-mail and say so, nothing wrong with moving an idea to the front of the line is there.

As I stated at the beginning, I CUSTOM make the DC 's and if the basic is too small or too big, I'll custom build the right size just for you. Price and shipping will vary with each custom unit. As I build custom DC units I will post pictures of them in:
