The essence of Albert Einstein's 1905 discovery is that there is a symmetry between space
and time. That is to say it turns out that what goes for space also goes for time. As a result of
this symmetry, space and time are so meshed together that neither exists has an individual
identity but instead they combine to form one of our greatest wonders and conceptual
challenges. It's called spacetime.
This page explores spacetime using a approach that doesn't seem to have been used
elsewhere. It's an approach that doesn't involve mathematics and yet, I believe, gives a true
sense of the foundation of the Special Theory of Relativity.
For those versed in relativity, I believe you will find the following a good new test of your
understanding of space-time, although a little patience will be required on your part at
first.
