LAMP, or “Loucks Astrometry of Minor Planets” is a small, private, optical observatory committed to astrometric observations. The observatory’s primary function is to gather astrometry/photometry data on near Earth asteroids (NEO’S). The ensuing observations are submitted to the Minor Planet Center which is the official clearinghouse for all minor planet data. In general, the observatory provides follow-up observations and on call confirmations as needed by the minor planet community. Currently, the observatory utilizes a pier mounted Celestron 11” SCT (f/3.2) and a SBIG ST-402ME CCD. LAMP is situated in New River, Arizona, which is approximately 38 miles north of central Phoenix and has been designated as “observing site G88” by the minor planet center. The skies are moderately dark where the average seeing is generally good year round. The observatory is routinely inactive during the period of July – Aug due to seasonal monsoon storms. It is my intention to promote LAMP primarily as a “Follow-up” observatory since these types of observations are greatly needed. If you would like to learn more about LAMP please feel free to contact me.
