S.P.A._{for teens, by teens}

SNeil Simon, Tony Kushner, William Shakespeare, Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller, George Bernard Shaw, Eve Ensler, Tom Stoppard, Eugene O’Neill and Lorraine Hansberry. All masterminds in the world of theatrics…but not one of them is under thirty. The Theater Project presents the Student Playwright’s Association, here to assist in the molding the youngest minds in tomorrow’s theater… but only after they finish helping each other grow first. A group for teens, by teens where the adults only play guardian angel.

3/15/08: Be sure to attend the Young Playwrights Awards hosted by The Theater Project at 3 p.m. on March 15! The three winning pieces will be given staged readings and other prizes. Kate, the founder of S.P.A. and 1st place winner of the 2007 Young Playwrights Awards, will also say a few words about the group.

1/23/08: The first S.P.A. meeting of the new year is finally happening! Come to the Roy Smith Theatre on 1/30, and be sure to bring baked goods as well as your work!

9/13/07: It's official--the S.P.A. is returning this fall! Our first meeting will be on October 17. Be sure to invite all your friends! Bring a baked good and any new writing as well.

about us

- Various writing exercises will be explored, ones that can be done with the group and ones to be taken home to help perfect each teen's individual style.
- Writing workshops will be held with professional writers invited by The Theater Project to help teach some basic aspects of writing for the theater, even to give tips for succeeding in the professional world.
- Student showcases will be held to allow for parents, friends and the community to come and see the students' works-in-progress, as well as to allow the students to see their work performed on stage....Learn more!
