Carl Goddard plays the Blues the way you seldom hear 'em played anymore. If he's moaning on the National Steel or galloping on the guitar he makes you feel something in your blood. Something deep in the song that not every player can reach. Something funny or scary or heartbreaking or wierd. The stories of these old songs are told partly through the lyrics, partly through the instrument and partly through something somewhere inside the person telling it. Not everyone can get at this last one. Too many performers don't even know it's there. This is something you just don't learn from "lessons". It's more than technique. It's more than the sum of it's parts. It's Rock 'n Roll, baby. ! |
