Where Can I Find . . . ?

Practical Links for Busy Librarians

October 4, 2006

My apologies to those of you who have tried to access the website in recent weeks; however, after several weeks of illness and surgery, I am now back “among the living.”

August 20, 2006

This list is intended to help the beginning librarian, but experienced librarians may also find some information useful. While helping a friend recently hired for her first public school library position, I began to compile sample forms, letters, reports, and other materials that I had used during my library career. Later, as I searched the Internet for further examples to share with my friend, I found some excellent sites on a variety of topics that might be useful to busy librarians; however, finding the actual forms themselves was more challenging.

While getting frustrated, it occurred to me that a list of links, sort of a “Ready Reference” for new librarians too busy to spend time looking for this type of information, might be useful. This list is not intended to replace excellent sources such as Joyce Valenza’s book/CD, Power Tools Recharged: 125+ Essential Forms and Presentations for Your School Library Information Program or other standard library management texts.

I have attempted to check for copyright permission or restrictions at each site; however, librarians should carefully check before using items without permission or proper credit. A fill-in-the-blank copyright permission form appears at the Bellingham (Washington) Public School’s website: http://www.bham.wednet.edu/copyperm.htm (Retrieved 8/20/2006). Be sure to obtain permission to use it!
