Kayla Freeborn
Junior Ladies
15 year old Kayla Freeborn has been skating since the age of five. Says Freeborn, "I can't image my life without ice skates!" Currently skating as a junior, she trains with Evy and Mary Scotvold at the Tony Kent Arena in Massachusetts, and with Paul Salas in Rhode Island at her home club, in Providence. (She skates for the Providence & Pawtucket Figure Skating Club.) "It's very motivating training along side hard-working, talented skaters like Jenny Kirk and Louann Donovan [in Massachusetts]," says Freeborn.
Freeborn formerly skated pairs, which included a top finish of second at the 1998 Junior Olympics in Juvenile Pairs. She and her partner were also extras in a skating scene in the movie, The Preacher's Wife. "It took one whole week to shoot a scene that lasted three minutes," Freeborn laughs.
Freeborn is currently in high school, and goes to school full time, where she takes all honors classes. She is part of her school's gymnastics team.
