Spokane, WashingtonNovember 4, 2000 The Vietnamese Youth Group would like to invite you to our fundraiser dinner to help the flood victims of Vietnam. Many people have lost their homes and loved ones due to the flood that has been going on for months. Our event includes a Vietnamese dinner and entertainment. During dinner there will be a featured speaker and a video clip of the recent floods. A raffle drawing for various prizes donated by local businesses will conclude the event. All the proceeds from this event will be sent directly to the conference of the Vietnamese Catholic Bishop to help the people in Vietnam rebuild their lives.

Patrick’s Parish Hall 5021
N. Nelson Saturday,
Nov. 4, 2000 Time:
7:00pm to 9:00pm. Tickets are $5 per person in advance and $7 at the door. Any additional donations will be appreciated. Your ticket includes an entry for the raffle drawing. Additional raffle tickets may be purchased for $1 each. You can purchase dinner tickets through any of the Vietnamese Youth Group members and Vietnamese businesses in the area.

Delta Flood
The southern region anti-flood committee said 366 people, including 262 children, had been killed in more than six weeks of serious flooding in the low-lying Delta. Officials say it is the worst flood in nearly 40 years.

following areas are affected by the floodwater: the Plain of Reeds, Long
Xuyen quadrangle, Long An, Dong Thap, An Giang, Kien Giang, Can Tho, Vinh
Long and Tien Giang provinces. And the
water level is expected to stay high until late November.
4 million people are stranded and 500 thousand people are in desperate need of help.
“In the past two consecutive months with heavy rains, waters in the Mekong delta have been rising high, flooded many areas in the Plain of Reeds, the Long Xuyen quadrangle and caused heavy damage to Long An, Dong Thap, An Giang and Kien Giang provinces as well as upstream districts of Can Tho, Vinh Long and Tien Giang provinces. Nearly 10 million people have been affected, 200,000 hector of rice paddy, 39 districts, townships and cities in the Mekong river delta were under deep water. The flood is the worst in 40 years and caused great losses. More than 300 people were killed, among them many children, nearly 650,000 houses were submerged. About 1,612 schools with 8,621 classrooms were flooded forcing 536,720 pupils to stay at home. Heavy damage was also caused to the transportation system in the region. It is estimated that total damage caused by the flood to the region has reached 1,307 billion VND, excluding damage caused to infrastructure facilities.” http://www.i-charity.net/sw.cgi/1086/1594
