In the year 2005, the Far West Ski Association and its member councils will celebrate the organization's 75th anniversary.
To help celebrate that important event, the FWSA Public Affairs Department and its History Committee present the Western Lost Ski Areas Project(WELSAP).
There are at least 134 lost ski areas in California alone. The definition of a ski area includes any area that had at least a rope tow (even portable). Some are lost and some were absorbed into bigger areas. We plan to track both.
Washington
We are linking to existing websites that cover the lost ski areas of  Washington and Southern California. We would like to thank those organizations for their efforts. Also, we'd like to thank The Colorado Skier website for their list of the lost ski areas of ArizonaNevada, and New Mexico.  Lastly, I'd like to thank the people who have contributed information and pictures to this site.
Oregon
We invite any of you out there who have information of any lost ski areas in the states indicated on the left to e-mail the webmaster with personal experiences and digitized brochures, photos, trail maps, etc.
Northern California
We  hope you will find this website both entertaining and  informative.
