"Wood If I Could Now"
Designing and creating fine wooden Arts and Crafts pieces while specializing in hand crafted coat and hat trees as well as segmented wooden bowls and vases. Artists always attempt to develop new methods and art forms and in that vein I have developed what I believe to be a unique method of creating segmented pieces, a method of which I have been unable to find anywhere else and therefore I call it Melange Segmenting, examples of which are in the Segmented Multi Wood Items category. In segmenting, the segmented pieces are made from several woods that have been precision cut and reassembled together using glue. In Melange segmenting small pieces of wood are cut and then are randomly selected and glued together to make a length of multicolored wood prior to the final angular precision cutting. The final forms are then carved on a lathe to form unique works of art. Each item is truly unique in its construction and appearance in that the final appearance of color mixtures and combinations is unpredictable. Most coat/hat trees use exotic veneers and inlay applications. Joseph's Coat Of Many Colors is the featured coat/hat tree and is constructed with 891 individual hand cut and fitted pieces of 11 different veneers. Also available are Oak wooden jewelry boxes. Each box has a black felt and ribbon lining inside. The presentation inside on the box top is the same as you see on the outside, except for mirror boxes. I also have some sets of oval wooden Shaker style boxes made of various woods. If interested please inquire by email as to availability. Woods and veneers I use in creating my works include Bacote, Curly Maple, Bloodwood, Brazilian Rosewood, Bubinga, Cerejera, Cherry, Chestnut, Cocobolo, Cypress, Etimoe, Imbuia, Jatoba, Lacewood, Macasser Ebony, Madeira also called Cuban Mahogany, Makore also called African Cherry, Morado, Myrtle Bay Laurel, Oak both white and red, Paduak, Phillipine Mahogany, Pine, Poplar, Purpleheart, Red Aromatic Cedar, Redbay, Redheart, Rosewood, Soft and Hard Maples, Sapele, Sassafras, Spanish Cedar, Sugarberry, Walnut, Western Cedar and Yellowheart. The colors in the woods are their natural color. Paints, stains and dyes are not used except where clearly indicated in the item information. A clear coat finish and several coats of Beeswax and Carnuba waxes are added for protection and to provide a fine finish.
